Damen Yachting Reveals Xplorer 60 Expedition Yacht
Damen Yachting has presented the initial hull of the Xplorer 60, which was previously referred to as the SeaXplorer 60 before the brand’s rebranding. The ship, named Xplorer 6001, is currently in the final outfitting stage in Turkey, with plans for delivery in the summer. The process includes commissioning and sea trials prior to handover.
Design and Engineering
The 60m vessel boasts naval architecture from Damen Yachting, incorporating hybrid power and propulsion systems. It features a fully certified helideck, an Ice Class steel hull, and engineering that complies with IMO Polar Code standards, ensuring performance in extreme conditions.
The yacht’s exterior was crafted by Azure Yacht Design, a Dutch firm, while H2 Yacht Design, with locations in the UK and France, created the interior layout. It accommodates 12 guests, alongside 16 crew members and a captain.
Exploration-Oriented Features
The Xplorer 60 is engineered for lengthy journeys and remote explorations. It has a crow’s nest and an observation lounge for sweeping views, with direct access to the foredeck enhancing wildlife and scenic observation. The open aft main deck is designed for storing and deploying a limo tender, crew tender, and jet skis. The aft bridge deck can be adapted to include a spa area, with an optional full-sized whirlpool.
Market Positioning and Availability
The Xplorer 60 continues the legacy of earlier models in the series, such as the SeaXplorer 58 Pink Shadow and the SeaXplorer 77 La Datcha, both of which have thrived in the charter sector. Damen Yachting has established the Xplorer 6001 as the sole yacht of its category presently available for swift delivery.
Damen Yachting, part of the Damen Shipyards Group, is dedicated to building Amels superyachts, Xplorer expedition yachts, and Yacht Support vessels.
The introduction of the Xplorer 60 bolsters Damen Yachting’s standing in the expedition yacht realm. With its hybrid propulsion, Ice Class hull, and advanced exploration features, this yacht caters to owners seeking independence and flexibility for cruising in remote locales.
