STP Shipyard Mallorca Expands to Accommodate Larger Superyachts

STP Shipyard in Mallorca Embarks on Significant Expansion to Cater to Bigger Vessels

Servicios Técnicos Portuarios (STP) has launched an €8 million project for expansion and modernization at its shipyard in Mallorca, designed to address the rising demand for refits and upkeep of larger vessels. This strategic initiative aims to greatly improve the shipyard’s capacity and operational efficiency, especially for superyachts over 100 meters in length.

The expansion will enhance the shipyard’s capability to accommodate larger vessels and simultaneously increase productivity by reorganizing the STP esplanade layout. The project is projected to positively affect the local economy, with estimates suggesting an additional €50 million to €60 million in annual revenue for the area.

Expansion Specifications

The total area of the shipyard will grow from 130,000 square meters to 162,000 square meters, with 102,000 square meters assigned to land and 60,000 square meters designated for water. This expansion makes use of previously underused areas within STP’s existing concession zone, facilitating further development without the need for new land purchases.

On the waterside, five new berths will be constructed, accommodating yachts up to 110 meters in length. These new berths will complement the existing three berths already allocated for superyachts. On land, STP plans to establish specialized zones for various activities, including a new covered area for mast removal, repair, and painting.

Environmental Aspects

In line with contemporary sustainability initiatives, STP will integrate photovoltaic panels on the new covered mast area and parking canopies. The solar energy generated from these setups is anticipated to power the equivalent energy usage of 115 apartments, leading to a reduction of CO₂ emissions by 124 tonnes on an annual basis.

Current Construction Status

Construction is currently in progress, although STP has not yet disclosed a completion date for the undertaking. This expansion is expected to further reinforce Mallorca’s status as a prime center for superyacht refits and maintenance in the Mediterranean.
